Chinese Design Day @ World Interior Event 2013

Date(s)

In cooperation with Guangzhou Design Week and Chinese ceramic tile manufacturing company DTHS the World Interiors Meeting 2013 will host a "Chinese Design Day" on Friday September 6th.
Theme of the Chinese Design Day will be "Chinese Design Culture and Tradition". From way back China has a rich cultural tradition. But the present generation of Chinese Designers grew up in an era when culture was non existant. After the Cultural revolution and the following stormy embrace of western values Chinese contemporary designers are now searching for a new Chinese design identity.

At the "Chinese Design Day" ten leading Chinese designers will start a dialogue with their western colleagues. Together they will exlplore what binds them, where their roots are and how they can develop a uniquely Chinese set of design values and new design language for the new China. Tradition and revolution; Burden or relief?

The ten speakers are carefully selected based upon their authority in the profession, unique vision on Chinese design and excellence in story line. The Chinese presentations will be translated simultaneously into English.

In addition to the "Chinese Design Day" over 40 Chinese designers will attend the World Interiors Meeting and enjoy an extended program with tours and excursions to recent highlights in Dutch interior design.

DTHS, which stands for Da Tang He Sheng, relates directly to the Tang Dynasty where the brand gets its inspiration to translate their products into contemporary designs. Established in 2004 DTHS is based in Foshan, near Guangzhou. The company provides high-end and premium ceramic products and services to the Chinese market.

Guangzhou Design Week is the strategic partner of the World Interiors Event in China. With 8th years experience Guangzhou design Week has grown to be the prime interior design platform in China, offering a design fair, satelite design events in over 50 Chinese cities, design awards (including the outstanding Yin Tang Prize for interior design and the China Design Awards CDA for product design) and substantial media coverage in China.

From way back China has a rich cultural tradition. But the present generation of designers grew up in an era that culture was non existant. After the Cultural Revolution and the booming embrace of western values that followed Chinese designers are now looking for a new Chinese identity.

During the "Chinese Day" ten leading Chinese designers start a dialogue with their western colleagues. Together they will explore what binds them, what their roots are how they can develop a new set of values and a new designlanguage for the new China. Tradition and revolution; burden or relief?
